What is Altar?
Altar is a personal spiritual space accessible at altar.place and via a Chrome extension that opens your altar on every new tab.
What we collect
- Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address. This is used only to authenticate you and is never shared publicly.
- Profile information
You may optionally set a display name and time zone. Your display name is visible to people in your circle. Your time zone is used to show local time on your altar.
- Altar content
We store the offerings you place on your altar, including their type, position, and any prayer text you attach. Offerings marked private are only visible to you. All other offerings are visible to members of your circle.
- Preferences
We store your selected scene, mute preference, and whether you've completed the tutorial, in order to restore your altar as you left it.
- Circle relationships
If you invite someone to your circl or accept an invitation, we store that relationship so each person can view the other's altar.
- Feedback
If you submit feedback through the in-app form, your message is stored in Notion. We may also ask for your email in connection with feedback, which would be stored there as well.
Chrome extension
The Altar Chrome extension opens your altar in every new tab. It:
- Stores your pause/resume preference locally on your device
- Temporarily caches your Supabase authentication session token in local extension storage so your altar loads already signed in
No extension data is transmitted to any server beyond what altar.place itself receives when you load the site.
How we use your data
We use your data solely to provide the Altar service — syncing your altar across sessions and devices, and enabling Circle sharing. We do not use your data for advertising, analytics resale, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
